Excerpt from: The Pursuit of God - God's Pursuit of Man by A.W. Tozer

"God made man in his own image and placed within him an organ by means of which he could know spiritual things. When man sinned that organ died. "Dead to sin" is a description not of the body nor yet of the intellect, but of the organ of God-knowledge within the human soul. Now men are forced to depend upon another and inferior organ and one furthermore which is wholly inadequate to the purpose. I mean, of course, the mind as the seat of his powers of reason and understanding. Man by reason cannot know God; he can only know about God. Through the light
of nature man's moral reason may be enlightened, but the deeper mysteries of God remain hidden to him until he has received illumination from above.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (I Cor. 2:14).

Anyone who is honestly trying to be a Christian will soon find his intelligence being sharpened. One of the reasons why it needs no special education to be a Christian is that Christianity is an education itself.  That is why an uneducated believer like Bunyan was able to write a book that has astonished the whole world. - C.S. Lewis

When the Spirit illuminates the heart, then a part of the man sees which never saw before; a part of him knows which never knew before, and that with a kind of knowing which the most acute thinker cannot imitate. He knows now in a deep and authoritative way, and what he knows needs no reasoned proof.  His experience of knowing is above reason, immediate, perfectly convincing and inwardly satisfying."

From Marilyn: Lately, it's been all about "hype!" Hype, actually means "extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion; promote or publicize intensively often exaggerating it's importance or benefit." Right now there is a tornado of hype surrounding each of us on a daily basis...there is hype about the Caucasus, there is hype about a primary, there is hype about debates, there is hype about the super bowl, Valentines Day and ground hogs...and we just came through the "hype of all hypes" with the holidays! Hype is something that is bestowed upon us at that hands of a few good minds. Folks that are super smart figure out ways to get us excited or concerned, and ask us to spend our hard-earned monies, about impending political issues, holidays and sporting events. We buy gifts, we buy signs, we buy food, we buy decor and we buy, because those smart folks are really good at selling! There are times that being hyped up and buying is a good thing to do for if we did not know that a snow storm were to hit our area, we would not be able to rightly prepare for a duration indoors. So, there is an element of "hype" that is for our benefit, but in my opinion, there is only one truth that deserve the "hype" attention.

This devotional from Tozer is sharing that it is the Lord who bestows on us the ultimate, real life hype of living under His influence. God the Father, His Son Jesus and the Gift of the Holy Spirit are the one triune worthy of hype - I speak of hype here in a totally positive and uplifting manner. (Remember, the noun is extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion) The Trinity is extravagant, intense and worthy of the promotion! There were three distinct persons that collaborated together to begin the process and plan of salvation when creation began..."In the beginning..." If we do not keep those words as a central focus to our real life hype of Jesus Christ, then we lose our perspective. Jesus spoke, He came, He lived, He died, He rose again, He sits at the right hand, He will come again and He is eternity! That is the "hype" of our faith walk in Christianity. There is no political agenda, there is no advertising blitz, there are no "must have" items to purchase and no food to consume when the love of Christ takes over that one lost soul...it is the "hype of all hypes"extravagant with intense promotion as even the angels rejoice over one sinner:

Luke 15:7 says, "I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

I don't know about you, but each and every time we talk to someone about the Lord, there could be such a wonderful HYPE (extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion) going on in the heavens if that person goes on to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior...and we have the ability to join in on the purest form of HYPE there is in all of creation. If we use the word hype, in verb form and promote and publicize often exaggerating it's importance or benefit, then I fear we have as Tozer puts it, only known about God, we don't truly know God.

"I mean, of course, the mind as the seat of his powers of reason and understanding. Man by reason cannot know God; he can only know about God. Through the light of nature man's moral reason may be enlightened, but the deeper mysteries of God remain hidden to him until he has received illumination from above." - Tozer

Astonish the whole world in your walk with Christ, HE IS worthy of the hype!
