Excerpt from My Utmost For His Highest, Oswald Chamber
"Determinedly Discipline Other Things. This is another aspect of the strenuous nature of sainthood. Paul says, "I take every project prisoner to make it obey Christ" (Moffat). How much Christian work there is today which has never been disciplined, but has simply sprung into being by impulse! In Our Father's life every project was disciplined to the will of the His Father. There was not a movement of an impulse of His own will as distinct from His Father's— "The Son can do nothing of Himself." Then take ourselves—a vivid religious experience, and every project born of impulse put into action immediately, instead of being imprisoned and disciplined to obey Christ. This is a day when practical work is overemphasized, and the saints who are bringing every project into captivity are criticized and told they are not in earnest for God or for souls. True earnestness is found in obeying God, not in the inclination to serve Him that is born of undisciplined human nature. It is inconceivable, but true nevertheless, that saints are not bringing every project into captivity, but are doing work for God at the instigation of their own human nature which has not been spiritualized by determined discipline. We are apt to forget that a man is not only committed to Jesus Christ for salvation; he is committed to Jesus Christ's view of God, the world, of sin and of the devil, and this will mean that he must recognize the responsibility of being transformed by the renewing of his mind."
I read this devotional over and over till it sunk in! As per my normal procedure, when completing a recent activity, I take inventory of what I would change, or do better for the next time. Though this was our last daughter's wedding event, and I don't plan on having another such event, I still like to review all the pro's and con's of each event with the hope of helping someone else in the future to bypass the detrimental issues and proceed with the positive points of such an event. I like to streamline, make things better and better and accomplish more efficiently a process to it's complete effectiveness. I can see how Oswald Chambers cautions a person like me, a person who for sure has been gifted in "seeing the details of an event," or a person who, by God's grace and giftings, has been in the "event" business for 30+ years to bring into captive each and every thought concerning HIS work; by inquiry of the Lord as to HIS direction in this event or that event....and literally asking of the Father, "should I be working in this area, or should this actual event take place, is that what You have planned?" I am certain that we all should be asking such questions of the Lord, then waiting on HIM for the answer and direction. Do I think there is room to do an activity or make a plan impromptu, for sure I do...and trust that the Lord will bless the mission, because I am faithfully walking with Him, yes I do! I firmly believe in Psalm 121...."I will protect thy going out and thy coming in from this day forth and even forevermore."
We just returned from a round trip to St. Louis to move Kelsi's personal belongings to her new home. We stopped by Indianapolis and picked them up from their honeymoon trip and spent the rest of the weekend at Sam's parents house to say our final good-bye's yesterday afternoon. Through tears and emotion once again (the past weeks have been wrought with such emotion), we went our separate ways - knowing that the Lord was in the midst and His will was in place. Therefore, though hard....it's still good!
Over the next few weeks, you are going to be given many opportunities to serve at VGF and encouraged to participate...and we for sure need each and every hand of teamwork, but I will encourage each person to inquire of the Lord and ask for His confirmation in the areas of your service. If you do that, your area of service will be blessed and will yield 10X more than what you could have ever imagined because it will be done in the power of the Holy Spirit giving you the additional direction, strength and ability.

Though someone can take that to an extreme and end up doing nothing, because they never hear from the Lord....the more you walk with Him, the more you talk to Him, the more you read about Him, the more you praise Him, the more you obey Him, the more you worship Him in your lifestyle and your daily life...the more you will hear that still small voice and know when approaching a decision in the future....the more you will know exactly what to do.
"I know who holds my tomorrow!!" Trusting you do too!
