Excerpt from Gems from Tozer, A.W. Tozer. This particular section is partially taken from “The Knowledge of the Holy.” (also by Tozer):
“What peace it brings to the Christian’s heart to realize that our Heavenly Father never differs from Himself. In coming to Him at any time we need not wonder whether we shall find Him in a receptive mood. He is always receptive to misery and need, as well as to love and faith. He does not keep office hours nor set aside periods when He will see no one. Neither does He change His mind about anything. God never changes moods or cools off in His affections or loses enthusiasm. God will not compromise and He need not be coaxed. He cannot be persuaded to alter His Word nor talked into answering selfish prayer. In all our efforts to find God, to please Him, to commune with Him, we should remember that all change must be on our part. “I am the Lord, I change not.” We have to but meet His clearly stated terms, bring our lives into accord with His revealed will, and His infinite power will become instantly operative toward us in the manner set forth through the gospel in the Scriptures of truth. “I am that I am,” says God, “I change not.” As the sailor locates his position on the sea by “shooting” the sun, so we may get our moral bearings by looking at God. We must begin with God.”
Okay and AMEN! Can we start out our week with the emboldened words..”WE MUST BEGIN WITH GOD!?” A thought to ponder as we enter this week!
I feel certain that we've talked in the past about “following the instructions” to different areas of our lives, especially when those of us who have dealt with children's toys and “some assembly required.”
That was never more true for us than this past summer as daily we had sanity challenges dealing with some new aspect of home remodel. Due to our limited budget we chose “the Sweeds” (as we fondly refer to IKEA) as a go-to point for many of our new household furnishings. To put together an IKEA project one must first understand that the directions are in “Sweed” (I'm referring to Sweden, where IKEA is founded) and that is pictures only. Not much opportunity for line by line, English/Spanish or other instructions…no, you must know how to read stick figures and pictures. At least with a Barbie dollhouse there are instructions listed as 1-2-3 in English and pretty detailed, in fact if you go out of order… you will find that you've placed a floor for a ceiling or visa versa and end up with pieces parts left over, we have done that! But with “the Sweeds” we found that there are no extra parts and once you have mastered the original picture puzzle of kitchen cupboard assembly….you can discontinue your instructional tutorial and assemble all night…for it's all the same process, just over and over again, no matter the size, shape or position of the cabinet. So for all the folks in the world that like IKEA, the directions are all the same, they are just in picture form.
The same process is true with God and HIS Word! “What peace it brings to the Christian’s heart to realize that our Heavenly Father never differs from Himself.” God never changes, His Word is truth from beginning to end, it matters not if you are English, Spanish, French or even “Sweed,” the glorious pictures and words from God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit speak to every language and every heart. You know those “Sweeds” have it down to a science… there are no extra parts left over, in fact if you want to purchase kitchen cupboards from IKEA, you must understand that every door hinge, every handle, every soft-close device is all sold separate. When you get a cupboard door….it is literally just the door. That's the way to universally deal with the masses.
Thankfully, that part is not true with our heavenly Father! When you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, you get the full package!!! He never changes, He is the essence of love, His power is immense, He never fails, He does not change His mind or His mood and…it takes one simple step, no special tools and all assembly has been previous established! …”As the sailor locates his position on the sea by “shooting” the sun, so we may get our moral bearings by looking at God. We must begin with God.” The practical application for this week… Begin with God!
